On Mj and the Iran Election
Hello. Lets talk about the state of news as of today.
Don’t worry. This’ll be quick.
For the past few weeks, there’s been a revolution happening in Iran. People have been protesting, dying, and more or less changing the way of life for Iranians over a rigged election that robbed many, many people of their votes. They’ve gotten the info out everywhere, over blogs and over twitter and over youtube. The internet – that is, Social Networks and User Defined Content – has been the one way to follow any developments.
Meanwhile, the professional media has been up in a frenzy because Michael Jackson died.
Lets think about this. There’s a huge change in Iran. But we’re focusing on a dead celebrity. A dead celebrity that, until he died, no one really cared much about anymore. A dead celebrity who was the butt of and will forever remain the butt of jokes.
Oh, that’s awful! You can’t say that about Michael, he was the king of pop! You’re a terrible person for not caring that he’s dead and talking bad about the deceased.
Fuck the deceased. For the past three years we’ve joked about him and now we have to pretend to care? Meanwhile, the important matters of the world are simply thrown aside?
This is why people look down on America. Because we find a washed up singer who kicked the bucket to be more news worthy than whats happening in the rest of the world.
